Jan Brickell
1934-2013

With a heavy heart we announce the loss off our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend, Janet. She passed swiftly and quickly to the gates of heaven as a result of a brain aneurysm. Earth's loss is Heaven's gain as surely this classy little lady was an angel.

Jan was born May 15, 1934 in Hoven, S.D. to Elmer and Ann (MellenBach) Spindler. She was the first in her family to obtain a college degree. Upon becoming a registered nurse, she moved to Denver to begin her career. She met Will A. Brickell soon after and the two were joined in marriage, June 15, 1963.

an loved being a wife and mother to Desiree and Shawn Brickell. They moved their family to Colorado Springs in 1969 where they lived a full and rich life. Jan took great pride in her years of service as an RN at Memorial Hospital's 7 north, Orthopedic and Neurology unit. They were active members in Holy Trinity Catholic church. Upon retiring Jan continued to serve her community by serving as a Eucharistic minister to people in the MacKenzie house and to those homebound. She served once a week at the Marion House soup kitchen. She loved being a member of her Antique and movie clubs. 

Jan was a remarkable woman and carried joy and sunshine wherever she went. She had a profound influence on the development of her grandchildren. She was a woman of strong faith and despite diversity she chose to live her days always positive, always nurturing, and always celebrating life. She was a true giver, full of grace, sweet, kind, a great role model, energetic, a tireless worker, and loved by all. She loved nature and she loved hiking. She took pride in her physical well-being. A hallmark of 2013 was her taking 1st place in the Women's 79 year old category of the Bolder Boulder, surpassing 2nd place by 20 minutes. She was appropriately designated by Bolder Boulder as "A Legend". Her time ranked her #5 in the "all time top 15 records" of the BB 35 year history! 

She was an angel who came down to serve for 79 years and is now back in the glories of heaven with her loved ones who preceded her in death including her husband, Will, her son, Shawn, her granddaughter, Brianna Janet Wubben, her parents, her brother and 19 Brickell in-laws. 

She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Desiree Wubben Brickell, her devoted son-in-law, David Wubben, her treasured grandchildren Sophia and Sam Wubben, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 3 of the 22 Brickell in-laws and treasured friends, nieces and nephews.
