ambition
brutus finds the truth
of the ego's struggle
upward..seemingly for each
new ladder rung..
to discover from the top
that temporary happiness
accompanied each rung
but eluded finally
on each and from the top..
there is the thought
that the discovery of futility
could have been discovered
nearer the bottom of one's
ladder of life...
