Fiery Tongues
Fiery Tongues
There seems much to know about this
annual celebration in two religions..
Let us..however..make a simple discovery:
Arrival of the Torah and the Holy Spirit
point to a universal experience available
to all..at any moment and place
and may be expressed in terms of
law..language..art..science..simplicity..
It is said that the fiery tongues
became new tongues in each person:
A new recognition of a fiery end
to languages which separate and veil..
Consciousness is experienced
as our real identity..with tongues which
express unity..wholeness..and peace...!
Acts 2:1-21
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
2 On the day of Pentecost all the Lord’s followers were together in one place. 2 Suddenly there was a noise from heaven like the sound of a mighty wind! It filled the house where they were meeting. 3 Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues moving in all directions, and a tongue came and settled on each person there. 4 The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking whatever languages the Spirit let them speak.
Exodus 19
At Mount Sinai
16 On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled. 17 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.
"And let me tell you something, old Solomon was right in the Old Testament, there's fire. With this I will sit down. We got to get you all married. The French Jesuit was one of the great minds and spirits of the 20th century, a Roman Catholic priest, scientist, a scholar, a mystic, in some of his writings he said from his scientific background as well as his theological one, some of his writings, he said, as others have, that the discovery or invention or harnessing of fire was one of the great, one of the great scientific and technological discoveries in all of human history.
Fire, to a great extent, made human civilization possible. Fire made it possible to cook food, thereby reducing the spread of disease. Fire made it possible to stay warm in cold climates, thereby marking human migration around the world a possibility.
Fire made the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Industrial Revolution possible. The advances of science and technology are greatly dependent on the human capacity to take fire and use it for human good." ~~Rev. Michael Curry at Royal Wedding
